's first-year or obama, who will never run for reelection again, so people not have to worry about it. this will be the window to cut the budget in some significant way, or at least have an outline for cutting the budget, and reform the tax system in some kind of significant way. the question is will it be the big picture reforms we need or will it be a 12-month solution. but they will have to do something that will hurt. i hate to say that. >> hurt everybody? >> yes. the only reason i would hesitate is that probably at the bottom of the income scale, hit make sure they are not hurt. >> what would you say to someone watching the elections and listening to the candidates, and they all promise that if you elect me, everything will be fine? it happened four years ago. >> it happened eight years ago, 12 years ago, 14 years ago. everybody is not the point to be fine. what i hope will happen is that he will have been shared sacrifice. everyone will suck it up and grow up and enough already and will cut all of these programs and cut their growth and it will increase the tax revenue to the go

the worst employment participation in 30 years -- in the three and a half years of president obama tenure, gdp growth has been 1.5%. historically, for the last seven years, it has been 3.7%. we have had less than half the historical average pared by contrast, in 1984gdp growth was 7.2% print what does that mean when the economy is growing, when small businesses are prospering? they are creating new jobs and people are able to find work. it creates opportunity for everyone. what we have unfortunately is small business after small business facing crushing uncertainty. the single biggest question you hear from business leaders is they don't know between obamacare and dodd-frank and the offshore drilling moratorium in texas. but entrepreneurs expressed to me is the sense of great uncertainty. what will the federal regulators do? and the president keep promising to raise everyone's taxes, which is causing small businesses to keep capital on theidelines and not deploy it because they have so much uncertainty. >> i am t certain that the president is going to raise their once taxes. but you know

projection is medicare spending would increase by hundreds of billions of dollars over the next 10 years. so the obama plan said they would bring to that figure, they would bring the growth down by $700 billion. only in washington is that called a cut. the amount spent would still be more than is being spent today. but it would not be as much more as previously forecast. >> there is also no guarantee the cut would actually happened. it is just a projection. so we are having an argument -- the obama people, to make the affordable care act look better, saying, here is all this money. it is not that they are proposing to cut medicare. they are saying the things we have done cut it. who knows? >> we will spend less than we believed we would have spent otherwise. but it will still be more than we are spending today. this is why you cannot talk about this issue. people's eyes glaze over. understandably so. the graphic in the washington post shows the elephant and adopt the back-to-back in the ring. >> in diapers in the sandbox. >> be in little kids. >> went up -- what item did not go in your artic

with obama for four years. now they can say we can tax you for doing nothing. i will give the other party a try. i will let the republicans have this one and see what they can do in a few years. if they suck, my vote will change again. host: interesting call. now we are on the line in pennsylvania with pstill phylis. turn down the tv. caller: hi. host: you are an independent. what are you thinking right now? caller: i will not vote for biden. he sounds crazy, always granting. nothing he says makes sense to me. as far as obama, i watch him. when he went overseas and talk about how we need to apologize for everything we do. and then i heard an interview that he gave with someone when he said that after his mother- in-law had surgery that it would be a good idea if an older person lived on pain pills instead of having their problem taken care of. another thing, and egos around the country and talks, he looks almost like the rabble-rousers' when he goes around the country, it looks almost like a rabble rouser. host: gene is an independent. good morning at. -- jean. caller: i will not vote for

and the last four years of rock obama, but what they have had to deal with, in fairness, is 9/11, a couple of wars that require a lot of spending, the tax cuts of george bush -- i am not sure where you stood on those, but they did eat into the amount of money we had to spend -- and then the recession, which was some say close to a depression. did that time prevent us from being able to make deficits and debt a top priority? >> it should not have. it could have, but it should not have come out if people were thinking clearly, if they were well educated, if they even understood this whole damn thing, which they do not. if you say what percentage of the american people understand this, i would say it is a very low number. it to be everybody, and everybody should say this is my country. people should be very active about not letting anything damaged our country. the one thing we have not mentioned at all, there is no question at all in my mind, if we keep going this way, some nation is going to head over here to take us. if they did, they have picked the right time, right? i wish every america

haphazardly, and lot of new initiatives, about and what we have seen in the last 11 years is things have settled down and stabilized and there is more political consensus. look at what the obama administration is doing right now. it's not that different from what the bush administration did throughout its to terms, especially at the end. given that there is that consensus, that is one of the recent national security is not an issue. it's also why some things are a little more litigious in the national security area. >> this will be the last question. >> any predictions for retirement? >> i need it will depend on who the next president is. obviously we have several justices who are getting older, but i think most of them would feel if they were voluntarily retiring and not forced to do so by health concerns or other circumstances, the honorable thing to do is retiring during the term of the party that a plea to do in the first place. you could seek justice ginsburg -- i think she is trying to make a record for how long she is staying on the court. if president obama is there, we may see h
